I’ve met several Berliners with stories of the Wall’s fall, excited at the new opportunity. But this weekend was the first time that I met someone who told me without any qualification that the fall of the Wall was felt as a bad thing, for her and for her family. she said it was “horrible.”

Outside Centraal Station in Amsterdam, a young man asked me something in Dutch and when I looked confused, he said, “Excuse me, where is the metro station?”
I soon revealed that I was from the States, he asked, “Oh really? Do you know Ron Paul?”
It turns out he and some of his friends are rooting for the Ron Paul team, all the way from Belgium. He looked pleased...

A few weeks back when K and I were checking out the Cassiopeia Café and Skatepark, the barista excitedly shouted to a friend, “Top Dollar!” referring to a dude that came through to skate. I asked her, “Top Dollar ist sehr cool?” And she smiled and said, “Ja, Top Dollar ist super cool.”
